== Italian == === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈɡuj.ja/ Rhymes: -ujja === Noun === guja (Romanesco) hernia Synonym: ernia == Serbo-Croatian == === Etymology === From Proto-Slavic *guja (“snake”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷówyeh₂, a derivative of *gʷówyos (“pertaining to cows”). The semantic link between a "snake" and "cow" is resolved by noting the existence of folk beliefs among Slavs that snakes could consume cow milk. This same etymology also underlies Latin boa, a snake also subject to similar beliefs in Roman folklore.
