Inherited from Old Occitan guimar (“to jump”), possibly from a Gothic *𐍅𐌹𐌼𐍉𐌽 (*wimōn) (compare Old Saxon upwimōn (“to rise”) and Old High German wemōn (“to sway”)).
The insertion of a /b/ comes from the influence of camba (“leg”).
