Gröna Hissen, Gröna hissen
=== Etymology ===
Compound of grön + -a + hiss + -en, literally “the green elevator”.
Originally the name of the fictional cocktail "The Green Elevator" in the 1915 American stage comedy Fair and Warmer. When the play was translated into Swedish, it was titled Gröna hissen (literally, “The green elevator”) after the drink featured in it.
Following the success of the play, a cocktail was created in tribute to leading actor Gösta Ekman the Elder which was named after the play; supposedly also referencing its green colour and the way the raisins rise and fall in the glass due to the carbonic acid, as if riding an elevator.
=== Noun ===
gröna hissen c
A cocktail containing gin, green Curaçao liqueur, champagne-flavoured soda (e.g. Champis or Pommac) and raisin.
