Because this lexeme is almost always used in reference to female humans, the masculine form is very rare compared to grávida. Circumstances in which it is used include: Talking about hypothetical or non-situations; With medical terms for parts of the body involved in pregnancy, such as útero (“uterus”), corpo (“body”) and abdômen (“abdomen”); In jokes and pranks; Talking about animals whose names are always masculine.
