=== Etymology ===
Unclear. From Old Albanian gluhë, most likely from Proto-Albanian *glu.a, with sporadic intervocalic loss of b (see pi, det, and dra) and insertion of a hiatus-like h (see bahe, kohë, and pah), from Pre-Proto-Albanian *glubā- ("tip"), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵlubʰah₂- (“point”).
A loan from Ancient Greek γλῶσσα (glôssa) is improbable from a linguistic and cultural standpoint, as Ancient Greek loans involved terms of trade and agriculture, not body parts, and a Proto-Albanian derivation would have been *gluśa, phonetically improbable.
