== English == === Etymology === First attested mid-16th century. Origin obscure. Possibly from *gibber, of onomatopoeic origin imitating to the sound of chatter, possibly from or influenced by jabber, +‎ -ish denoting the name of a language (compare English, Finnish, Spanish, etc.).
