The form attests to relatively old age, predating not only the reintroduction of front-rounded vowels, but also the diphthongization [eː] > [əɪ̯]. Nevertheless it obviously cannot be native as [əɪ̯] here would require an old-long vowel (Middle High German æ, ē, œ), which is not the case.
