Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كتورمك (getürmek), from Proto-Turkic *kẹltür-, causative of Proto-Turkic *kẹl-. Doublet of geldirmek and geldirtmek. Compare oturmak (“to sit”) for the loss of -l- in -lt-.
