=== Etymology ===
From gadzina (“dated: reptile, also: malicious person”) + -ówka. Calque of German Reptilienfonds (literally “reptile funds”), a secret fund intended to bribe media in the Polish territories to further the interests of the Prussian Empire. Some scholars link the name with "Godzina Polski" (Hour of Poland), paper published in Warsaw and Łódź by the occupying German authorities during World War I. The paper was colloquially called "Gadzina Polska" (Reptile of Poland).
