gúddera
التعريفات والمعاني
== Icelandic ==
=== Alternative forms ===
gútera (the more common spelling during the 20th century)
=== Etymology ===
Borrowed from Danish goutere (“to accept”), from French goûter. Modern speakers often incorrectly assume the word is a blend of English good and Danish -ere, which may explain why the spelling gúddera became more common than the original spelling gútera. Used since the 1940s.
=== Verb ===
gúddera (weak verb, third-person singular past indicative gúdderaði, supine gúdderað)
(informal) to okay something, to approve, to give one's seal of approval (often after only a quick review)
Arkitektinn á eftir að gúddera þessar breytingar. ― We have to wait for the architect to approve these changes.
(informal) to accept as valid, to approve of
Ég get ekki gúdderað þessi rök. ― I don't accept that reasoning as valid.
