=== Etymology ===
From Old Swedish forgangliker, from Middle Low German vorgenklik, from vorgān (“expire”), cognate with Danish forgængelig, Norwegian Bokmål forgjengelig, Norwegian Nynorsk forgjengeleg, German vergänglich and Dutch vergankelijk. Equivalent to för- (“fore-”) + gång (“going”) + -lig (“-ly”) or förgå + -lig with umlaut on the å becoming an ä, and g accordingly being pronounced as a Swedish j sound since ä is a so-called soft vowel.
