From Latin epiplocē (“(rhetoric) connection”), from Ancient Greek ἐπιπλοκή (epiplokḗ, “plaiting together”), from ἐπιπλέκω (epiplékō, “to interweave”), from ἐπι- (epi-, “upon”) (see epi-) + πλέκω (plékō, “to plait”).
