Learned borrowing from New Latin elasticitās as Latinised elastis + -itas which superseded elastisitet, from Dutch elasticiteit, from French élasticité, from Ancient Greek ἐλαστός (elastós, “ductile, flexible”), related to ἐλαύνω (elaúnō, “to strike, beat out”).
