From Old Norse dagverðr, dǫgurðr. Cognates include Danish davre.
First attested in the 17th century in several sources. Also attested as Duelen in Glossarium Norvagicum (1749) of Erik Pontoppidan: this spelling is probably representing an Eastern pronunciation, although the author was doing his lexicography research in Western Norway.
