From Proto-Celtic *drus-lyo-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrews-lo-, from *dʰrews- (“to break into pieces”), which appears to be related to Proto-Indo-European *dʰrā́ks (“dregs, sediment”). Cognate with Cornish dral, Middle Breton druill, and, outside of Celtic, Lithuanian druskà (“salt”); see the Lithuanian for more.
