Inherited from Ottoman Turkish دیڭلهمك (diŋlemek, “to listen, hear, pay attention to, obey, conform to”), from Proto-Turkic *tïŋ-la-mak, *tiŋ-le-mek (“to listen”), derived from Proto-Turkic *tiŋ (“reason, mind”). Compare Old Turkic 𐱃𐰃𐰭𐰞𐰀 (tïŋla-, “to listen”), Karakhanid تِنْكْلاماقْ (tïŋlāmāq, “to listen”), Turkmen diňlemek (“to listen”), Salar diñne, Kazakh тыңдау (tyñdau), Tatar тыңларга (tıñlarğa).
