Sense 2 is attested as slang in the 1950s, while sense 1 – which presumably developed from it – is attested as criminal slang in the 1960s. The spellings dichavar, dechavar and dixavar are attested within one decade of one another (the latter as eye dialect). (This etymology is missing or incomplete.
