From Proto-Germanic *dūjan- (“to tremble”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewH-. Cognate to Ancient Greek θύω (thúō, “to rush in, storm, rage”) and Sanskrit धूनोति (dhūnóti, “to shake, move to and fro quickly”).
