Inherited from Ottoman Turkish دوگوم (düğüm, “knot”), which derives from Proto-Turkic *tügün (“knot”), from *tüg- (“to tie in a knot; make a loop”). By surface analysis, (dialectal) düğ- (“to tie a knot”) + -üm (“deverbal nominal”).
