First attested as ëndiglonj in Buzuku, borrowed from Vulgar Latin intellegō (“to understand, perceive”), with metathesis of the -l- and -g- and many other phonological distortions in dialects, with the predominant form ultimately phonologically contaminated with gjoj (“to hear”).
