First attested in 1828, from Latin cȳmat(is) (“sprout, swelling, hollow sphere”) + -ic, stem of cȳma, from Ancient Greek κῡ́μᾰτος (kū́mătos, “wave, billow, swell, sprout, fetus”), genitive of κῦμα (kûma). Compare the latter cymatics (1966) and the earlier Latin cȳmaticus (1753).

The roof is surrounded by an embrasured parapet. But the most curious external feature of this building, is the principal entrance door, strongly studded with large nails; the upper part having a cymatic form.
