Tradition holds that clerical script developed out of the needs of clerks. === Noun === clerical script (uncountable) An archaic style of Chinese calligraphy, dominant during the Han dynasty. Characters are rather wide (in comparison with modern styles), with long, bold, and deliberate sweeping strokes.
