ciliegia
التعريفات والمعاني
== Italian ==
=== Alternative forms ===
ciriegia (Tuscan)
=== Etymology ===
From the variant ciriegia, from Vulgar Latin ceresia, from the neuter plural of Late Latin ceresium, from Latin cerasium, from Ancient Greek κεράσιον (kerásion, “cherry”), from κερασός (kerasós, “bird cherry”), ultimately possibly of Anatolian origin. Alternatively from ciliegio, ciriegio (Tuscan), from Late Latin ceresus, from Latin cerasus. See also cerasa. Double hypercorrectism : Tuscan corrects intervocalic R → intervocalic L (assuming that cer- is a Lombard pronunciation) ; and corrects -SA → -GIA (mistakenly assuming -sa is another Lombard pronunciation) ; same for garea→ galera, another hypercorrectism
