Inherited from Proto-Sabaki *-canga, from Proto-Bantu *-cànga. Doublet of -tanga (“to wander, to loiter”), which was inherited through a Northern dialect.
In Sabaki, cognate with Ngazidja Comorian -tsanga and Giryama -tsanga. Other Bantu cognates include Nyamwezi -sanga and Herero -hanga.
