== Chickasaw == === Etymology === From chaaha (“to be tall/high”) +‎ -chi (causative verb suffix). Compare Koasati chaihachilaho̱. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /t͡ʃáː.ha.t͡ʃi/ === Verb === chaahachi (active voice, transitive) to make tall (active voice, transitive, nominal object) to increase, to make high (of numerical values and measurements) ==== Usage notes ==== This term follows the Strident-Coronal rule. This means that a non-lengthened vowel is deleted between an ⟨s⟩, ⟨sh⟩, ⟨lh⟩ or ⟨ch⟩ preceded by a long, rhythmically lengthened or nasal vowel or a short vowel followed by ⟨h⟩ or ⟨ꞌ⟩, and a following suffix beginning with a ⟨t⟩, ⟨n⟩, ⟨l⟩ or ⟨ch⟩. After this rule is applied, a cluster consisting of ⟨ch⟩ plus a following consonant would be expected but the ⟨ch⟩ is changed into a ⟨sh⟩ in accordance with the Ch-Sh rule. ==== Inflection ==== ==== Derived terms ====
