== Oscan == === Etymology === Disputed. De Vaan suggests an inheritance from Proto-Italic *kens-ā-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱens-. However, on the basis of the unusual sequence /ns/—which is atypical in Oscan—the linguist Nicholas Zair suggests is borrowed from or influenced by a Latin term.
