=== Alternative forms ===
bizuth
=== Etymology ===
Of uncertain origin. One possibility is a derivation from French bisogne (“recruit, new soldier”), which was borrowed from Spanish and used from the 1160s to the beginning 1170s, and is still listed in some modern dictionaries as archaic, but this presents difficulties from a phonetic and chronological perspective. A second possibility is a loan from Franco-Provençal bésu (“inexperienced”) or the related Franco-Provençal bésule (“new student”), but this seems unlikely as well.
