From German dialectal Bizykel, from English bicycle, coined from bi- (“two”) + Ancient Greek κύκλος (kúklos, “circle, wheel”), on the pattern of tricycle. Suffixed with -i to resolve the word-final consonant cluster, compare cetli from Bavarian zettl or German Zettel (/ˈt͡sɛtl̩/) etc.
