Borrowed from Balinese ᬩᬶᬬᬗ᭄ᬮᬮᬄ (bianglalah, “rainbow”). The alternative form [b]iyang-lalâr attested in Crawfurd (1852), analyzed as biang (“source, mother”) + laler (“fly [insect]”), is probably an eggcorn.
