== Dutch == === Etymology === From earlier bevrijen, from Middle Dutch bevriën, a prefixed form of vriën (“to free”). Can be interpreted synchronically as be- +‎ vrijen or vrij +‎ be- -en. The -d- is a hypercorrection, probably influenced by the past tense bevrijd and/or compensating for a mistakenly supposed case of d-weakening (compare vlieden); contrast vrijen, which has the etymologically expected form without -d-. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /bəˈvrɛi̯.dən/ Hyphenation: be‧vrij‧den Rhymes: -ɛi̯dən === Verb === bevrijden (transitive) to liberate, to free ==== Conjugation ==== ==== Derived terms ==== === Anagrams === bedrijven
