== Dutch == === Alternative forms === beekbunge === Etymology === First attested in 1608 spelled beeckpunge, representing a calque of German Bachbunge / Bachpunge, where beek (“brook”) replaces German Bach; so named because the plant grows by brooks and ditches. The element -punge is an unadapted borrowing from German and does not exist outside this word in Dutch; it ultimately derives from a Germanic word meaning "bulge" or "bunch". Compare also Swedish bäckebunga, whence the taxonomic name beccabunga (so named by Linnaeus). === Pronunciation === === Noun === beekpunge f (uncountable, no diminutive) European speedwell, brooklime (Veronica beccabunga) Hypernym: ereprijs === References === van der Sijs, Nicoline, editor (2010), “beekbunge”, in Etymologiebank, Meertens Institute === Further reading === beekpunge on the Dutch Wikipedia.Wikipedia nl
