Because of their identical ingredients and cooking method, balado is often used interchangeably with sambal goreng (literally “fried sambal”). Nevertheless, the term is particularly associated with Minangkabau cuisine, while sambal goreng may be used more broadly within the context of general Indonesian culinary tradition.
