From Ottoman Turkish بلوك (bölük, “a part, division, fragment, a military company or squad”) (alternative forms; بولك, بولوك), from Ottoman Turkish بولمك (bölmek, “to divide, to separate”), from Proto-Turkic *böl- (“to separate”) (which lacks record of written form). By surface analysis, böl- + -ük.
