From Old Swedish bikare, from Old Norse bikarr (“cup”), from Old Saxon bikeri (“cup”), from Late Latin bīcārium (“wine vat, jug”), probably a diminutive of Ancient Greek βῖκος (bîkos, “amphora”). Related to German Becher.
