== French == === Etymology === Inherited from Middle French aveugle from Old French avogle, from Late Latin ab oculīs (“without eyes”, literally “away from the eyes”), possibly a calque of Ancient Greek ἀπὸ ὀμμάτων (apò ommátōn) or more likely from Gaulish exops.
