plural of avena

=== Etymology ===
Derived from the word avs “ewe” (cf. auns) + -ene. Raspberries are compared to sheep because of their softness and the tiny projections on their surface. Another possible motivation is that sheep often eat raspberry leaves. Cognates include Lithuanian aviẽtė.
