Inherited from Old Spanish, from an older *ullar, from Vulgar Latin *ūl(ŭ)lāre, from Latin ululāre, ultimately from a reduplicated Proto-Indo-European imitative root. Doublet of the borrowed ulular. Cognate with English ululate.
