Borrowed from Ancient Greek ᾰ̓ρῠταινοειδής (ărŭtainoeidḗs), from ᾰ̓ρῠ́ταινᾰ (ărŭ́taină, “a ladle or cup”) + -ο- (-o-) + -ειδής (-eidḗs, “-like, -oid”). Doublet of arytēnoīdeus.
