== Lithuanian == === Etymology === Phonetically matches Proto-Slavic *ȍpakъ (“the other way round”), Sanskrit अपाक (ápāka-, “distant”), अपाका (apākā́, “far, behind”), Old Norse ǫfugr (“turned the wrong way”), which are from Proto-Indo-European *h₂epo-h₃kʷ-, from *h₂epó (“behind”) + *h₃ekʷ- (“eye”). The original meaning of the PIE etymon must have been "looking the other way". This semantically matches the meaning of the Lithuanian word (owls are able to turn their heads 360°). Hinze draws a parallel with Sanskrit उलूक (úlūka-, “owl”), from *h₁urH-u- (“broad”) + *h₃ekʷ-.
