=== Etymology ===
Apparently borrowed from Swedish apotek (“pharmacy”) with syncope. Compare, however, Estonian apteek and German Low German Apteek, suggesting a Low German source at some point, probably Middle Low German abtēke or aptēke (besides abbetēke and apotēke), which also exhibits syncope. Ultimately from Ancient Greek ἀποθήκη (apothḗkē, “repository”) and a doublet of boutique and putiikki.
