Borrowed from Portuguese aprimorar + English -ation, as a mistranslation by Portuguese speakers. Equivalent to aprimorate + -ion. The earliest known use of the English word was is in a 2003 Brazilian dissertation (see the quotation), although it has likely been re-formed independently on multiple occasions.
