From aphrodito- (“Venus”) + -oid (“like”). From Ancient Greek Ἀφροδίτη (Aphrodítē, “Aphrodite”), the Greek Goddess of Love, equivalent to the Roman Goddess of Love Venus (“Venus”), synonymous use for the planet; and Ancient Greek -ειδής (-eidḗs, “-oid”) suffix. Coined in analogy to geoid, the equivalent for planet Earth.
