== Albanian == === Alternative forms === ani, anie, anijë — dialectal === Etymology === From anë (“container”) +‎ -i, subsequently relevelled to -je. For semantical parallels between “ship” and “container” compare English vessel, German Schiff, etc. Given how its earliest attestations are in Calabria, Topalli (2017) suggests that it is possible that the word was coined there and came to Albania via literary works. In Bashkimi (1908) it is labelled as “Rada”, see quote below. Sense 3 is a semantic loan from European languages, compare Latin nāvis (“ship; nave”). === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /aˈnije/ Rhymes: -ije === Noun === anije f (plural anije, definite anija, definite plural anijet) ship, large watercraft, vessel spaceship, spacecraft anije kozmike ― spaceship anije ndërplanetare ― interplanetary spaceship (architecture) nave; aisle (of a church) Synonyms: anijatë, navatë anija qendrore ― nave anija anësore ― aisle ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== === References === FGJSSH (1980), page 36b: “aníj/e,~a” Topalli (2017), page 105a: “aníje” Kamsi (2000), page 20a: “ani-a” Giordano (1963), page 10b: “aní-a” Mann (1948), page 8a: “anije” Çekrezi (1923), page 151a: “ship” → “anie” Bashkimi (1908), page 23a: “ânijé” Meyer (1891), page 13: “anī́”
