From Proto-Finnic *ammo- (compare Estonian ammu (“once upon a time, long ago”)), probably from Proto-Uralic *amme (“old, previous”) + -oin (temporal singular) (compare Northern Sami oamis (“past, old”), Erzya умок (umok, “a long time ago”), Hungarian ó (“ancient, in previous”)).
