From Latin lūstrō (“I purify; I illuminate”) from Latin lūstrum (“sacrifice”); or rather from Proto-Celtic *lowkstro-, from Proto-Celtic *lowko- (“bright, light”): compare Welsh lluched (“lightning”) and North Catalan llaucet. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (“to shine”).
