The original form was the now-obsolete lureca as intervocalic -r- and -n- are occasionally mixed in Romanian phonological evolution (cf. senin from serēnus and mărunt from minūtus), probably the result of anti-rhotacism in response to rhoticism in Transylvanian dialects, in which case these terms were perceived as having been rhotacized.
