== Finnish == === Etymology === From Proto-Finnic *alovëh. Equivalent to ala (“area”) +‎ -ue. First attested in 1829 in an edition of the newspaper Oulun Wiikko-Sanomia. According to SSA, the form alue may have been adopted in the standard language as a result of Karelian influence (Karelian aloveh), being native only in the 'easternmost' of dialects; the Tavastian dialectal word aloo is probably related, however. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈɑlueˣ/, [ˈɑ̝lue̞(ʔ)] Rhymes: -ɑlue Syllabification(key): a‧lu‧e Hyphenation(key): alue === Noun === alue area, region (any considerable and connected part of a space or surface) region, area (regional subdivisions) oblast (regional administrative unit in Russia) Synonym: oblasti (usually in compounds) reserve (tract of land reserved, or set apart, for a particular purpose) metsätalousalue ― forestry reserve area, region, extent (range of values or locations) Synonym: ala domain (geographic area owned or controlled by a single person or organization) (physics) band (wavelength band) mikroaaltoalue ― microwave band (mathematics, topology) domain (music, in compounds) register (range of a voice or instrument) Synonyms: rekisteri, ääniala bassoalue ― bass register diskanttialue ― treble register synonym of ala (“field; course of study or domain of knowledge or practice”) ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== === References === === Further reading === “alue”, in Kielitoimiston sanakirja [Dictionary of Contemporary Finnish]‎[2] (in Finnish) (online dictionary, continuously updated), Kotimaisten kielten keskuksen verkkojulkaisuja 35, Helsinki: Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus (Institute for the Languages of Finland), 2004–, retrieved 2 July 2023 == Portuguese == === Verb === alue inflection of aluar: first/third-person singular present subjunctive third-person singular imperative
