Learned borrowing from Latin alopecia, from Ancient Greek ἀλωπεκία (alōpekía, “fox-mange”), from ἀλώπηξ (alṓpēx, “fox”) + -ία, -εια (-ía, -eia, “a formative ending used in Ancient Greek, especially used in naming diseases”).
