== Turkish == === Etymology === From Ottoman Turkish آلچالمق (alçalmaḳ, “to become low, to stoop, to degrade one's self”), from Ottoman Turkish آلچامق (alçamaḳ, “to treat as vile, to become low”), either from Proto-Turkic *aĺak (“foot of a mountain, low, below”) or from alt (“bottom, base”) combined with the suffix -sa, where the /ts/ sound undergoes a phonetic change and turns into /t͡ʃ/, from Proto-Turkic *ăl (“lower side, below, being below, lower”), morphologically alça- +‎ -l- +‎ -tı. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /aɫ.t͡ʃaɫˈtɯ/ Hyphenation: al‧çal‧tı === Noun === alçaltı (definite accusative alçaltıyı, plural alçaltılar) Area of land with low elevation, low ground, depression, sinkage.
