Borrowed from New Latin actinobolismus, from Koine Greek ἀκτινοβόλος (aktinobólos, “emission of rays”) + -ismus. Ἀκτινοβόλος is from ἀκτίς (aktís, “ray”) + βόλος (bólos, “a throw”). First attested in the 1650s.
